Final project of the year!

Today students finished sharing their chosen item - we heard A LOT of songs and discussed why music so often speaks to us emotionally.
Then, we took a look at the requirements for our final project for Language Arts and Social Studies! Students will need to submit a written statement of beliefs as well as a choice project to enhance their statement of beliefs. The rubric also has details on the grading - and in which classes each item will be scored.

Sharing

Today we shared the quotes we had brought from various sources. We heard LOTS of songs, a few movies, poems, and bible verses. Students are doing an excellent job thinking about and discussing their beliefs with each other. We will finish sharing tomorrow.
Then - we will begin writing our final statement of beliefs! More details tomorrow in Language Arts and Social Studies!

Sharing MONDAY!

Today students worked on writing paragraphs about how a song, book, movie, or other source represents their beliefs. On Monday, they will share their source and their analysis with the class. This means that on Monday students CAN use I-Pods, DVDs - whatever they need to share their ideas with the class.

Who said that? DUE TOMORROW

Today we finished our conversations around the BIG questions and students completed a reflection on those questions.
Willem, Sam, Carter, and Michael made this video to teach the class about their book.

Don't forget to bring in a quote from something that shares your beliefs tomorrow. See here for details.

More discussions

Today we spent some more time discussing the interesting questions raised by students from their picture books. We have one more in each class tomorrow. Parents: check in with your students about some of the BIG questions we have been discussing - quite fascinating!

Don't forget, we have homework due on Friday!

Who said that?

Students continued working on Big Ideas, Small Books today. Tomorrow they present! Come to class ready to go.

Our homework this week is to RESEARCH what others have said that agrees with our own beliefs. See this doc for details. By Friday, students should identify and bring to class a quote from any number of sources to represent their beliefs. We will work on writing a paragraph on Friday and share these with each other next Monday. If possible, students should try to bring a real copy of whatever they are sharing (not just the quote they're reading) - meaning they should bring the song, movie clip, poem, whatever it is they decide to share.
